10,000 Reasons to Hail the Power of Jesus Name

New Year Purpose Church Banner

       I learned a valuable lesson on Sunday! You can rely on your preparation all you want, but that doesn’t mean everything is going to go perfectly. So many times we rely on our own strengths to get through trails and triumphs, but was it really our abilities that gave us success? Even if we say yes to that question, can we really thank ourselves for the abilities that we have? Let me help you answer that question… no!

   I love how the famous hymn “All Hail the Power of Jesus Name” starts out! “All hail the power of Jesus’ Name! Let angels prostrate fall; Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all. ”  I love the painting it depicts of the royalty of Jesus Christ. Christ is so worthy that even the angels fall on their faces before Him. Christ is so powerful that even His name, even the name Jesus has great power and strength, and we think that we are responsible for the great that we do. How dare we take away from the glory of God!

  In Philippines 2:6-11 we see great humility that Christ has.

6 Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!

9 “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place

 and gave him the name that is above every name,

10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.”

       Even though Christ is the King of Kings and Lord of Lord, “He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant.” Oh, that we would humble ourselves and become a servant! As we go through our week this week, start to think of ways to use the abilities God gave you to glorify Him. And when we benefit from the gifts God blessed us with, we should stop and praise Him from them. All of us have so much to be thankful for! I love what psalm 103 says:

1Praise the Lord, o my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2 Praise the Lord, o my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
3 who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion

A song we are singing this Wednesday, comes right out of this passage of scripture. 10,000 Reasons is a great song of praise, and reminds that we all have great reasons to be thankful. I hope and pray that as we go through our week we will humble ourselves and be like servants and be thankful for the great things God has poured out on us!

“You’re rich in love, and You’re slow to anger
Your name is great, and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find”
